Extra Credit Opportunity! If you go to Gary Freeburg lecture on Thursday and write a feedback about his lecture, I will give you extra credit.

Gary Freeburg: The Valley of 10,000 Smokes: Revisiting the Alaskan Sublime
The presentation will include a brief history of the largest volcanic eruption recorded on Earth in the twentieth century, a selection of photographs that Freeburgh created while alone in the wilderness of Katmai Alaska's Valley of 10,000 Smokes and the story behind the creation of these images. The photographs have been published in a book Freeburg authored, the Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes: Revisiting the Alaskan Sublime (2012)

For the first exam tomorrow, I expect your answer to be articulate, comprehensive, and informative as possible. I also expect each answer to have at least 250-300word counts. You could either write your answer in word doc or handwriting in papers. If you choose to handwrite, then you must provide your own papers and 'please please' try hard to make it legible.

Tomorrow we will be watching movie on Edward Burtinski. On Wednesday, there will be a lecture on 'Digital Imaging and Beyond(Post Photography)' Artists covered on Wednesday lecture won't be on the Exam 1.
Under the page, Exam 1, I listed the names of 20 artists you need to study for the Exam 1. Out of 20 example, 7 will be on the exam and another 2 will be given for extra credit.

Write up a one page response using these questions as food for thought on 5 broken cameras.

1. Consider the "bad" camera. How did you respond to the footage we shot with it?
2. What does this film make you think of life in the United States?
3. Do we lose our land by force? Has anyone in the United States? Has there been an occupation here?
4. Consider the inference to freedom as displayed by chickens living in the tree. Relate this to people and barriers.
5. Gibreel extends an olive branch to the Israeli officer and the officer takes it. what does that say/represent to you? How about the rainbow just after Gibriel's birthday?
6. Why do the Israelis take the Palestanian children? Is this something like what happens in Africa?
7. Consider the mother of Emad's children. Do you sympathize with her? How about her suggestion that bad things are happening to their family because of the camera and Emad's belief that the camera protects him. HOw about her telling the children what they must do to keep what is theirs? Emad says that Gibreel must get tough skin and the the boys must become tough men.
8. Finally, discuss the photographic truth regarding the fact that the film was made from one point perspective. Palestanian perspective. Discuss power of journalism and photography (video and any lens based medium) regards to its matter of fact, descriptive, and informative quality inherent with medium?
