Thursday, March 3, 5:30 PM - At the Envision Center
Lecture: Visualization: Science and Art
This talk presents a range of research projects and artworks that introduce current trends in the field information visualization. The projects include: interactive representations of biological pathways that enable the visual analysis of protein-protein interactions; dynamic network visualizations of the human brain connectome; and a public art installation that explores connections between photographic images and literary themes in the work of Gabriel Garcia Marquez' One Hundred Years of Solitude. In addition to describing details about these individual projects, the talk will explore the potential of integrating artistic and scientific approaches to research.

Friday, March 4, 4-7 PM - In Knoy 314
Workshop: Creative Shader Programming
This workshop introduces programmers to the use of GLSL vertex and fragment shaders in WebGL applications that can run in the browser.
Attendees will learn how to create their own shader programs to generate novel artistic effects. Level: Intermediate (some familiarity with programming in Javascript will be helpful). Requirements: A laptop with a new version of Chrome installed.

I hope to see you on Thursday and Friday,
